You are seeking a short two stage multi cache that begins at the grave marker for John. H. Koster, a veteran of the Civil War.
Curious to note, is that the Find-a-Grave website lists John H. Koster as having served as a Lieutenant in Fowler’s Battery. But this is the only source of information that claims he served at this rank; other sources actually contradict this rank claim.
The roster of Fowler’s Battery does not list a lieutenant named Koster. Instead the list of lieutenants having served in the Civil War is comprised of John Phelan who was promoted, Robert Perrin who resigned, William Dailey who was killed at Resaca, N. Venable, A. Hinton and Samuel Reeves.
The roster for the battery instead lists a John H. Kuster (sic) being from Tuscaloosa and enlisting as a Farrier. He was discharged in April 1865 at the rank of Private. His wife filed an application for his pension stating that he was “unable to make a living on account of hernia and rheumatism.”
