Waar u nu staat, had u tot een jaar geleden uitzicht op het spoorwegviaduct dat dwars door Delft ging. Voor velen jarenlang een doorn in het oog en bron van veel (geluids)overlast. Daarnaast was het traject nabij Delft het enige stukje dubbelspoor op het traject tussen Rotterdam en Amsterdam. Dat was er de reden voor dat de gemeente, de provincie en ProRail/NS gezamenlijk de handen ineen te slaan. In het kleine, dichtbebouwde, Delft hebben ingenieurs en ontwerpers het voor elkaar gekregen om een tunnel te bouwen met ruimte voor 4 sporen. Best een prestatie ! Het project startte in 2014 en zal nog wel even doorlopen voordat het helemaal af is. Sinds februari 2015 rijden de treinen door de Willem van Oranjetunnel, ongeveer onder uw voeten.
Daarmee is Delft nu ont-SPOOR-d !
Reden genoeg voor een korte serie caches die herinneren aan het vroegere tracé van het viaduct. En het is warempel gelukt om in het Cache-drukke Delft nog plek te vinden voor deze serie.

Where you are standing now, until a year ago you had a view of the railway viaduct that crossed Delft. For many people it was a nuisance and caused a lot of noise. Besides that, the viaduct through Delft was the only stretch of double track on the route between Rotterdam and Amsterdam. That was the reason for the municipality, the province and ProRail/NS to make a joint effort. In the small, densely populated Delft, engineers and designers have managed to build a tunnel with enough room for 4 tracks. Quite an acheivement ! The project started in 2014 and will will probably take several years more to be completed. As of February 2015 the trains now ride through the William of Orange-tunnel, almost right under your feet.
Thus, Delft is now de-RAIL-ed !
Reason enough for a short series of caches that remind of the former route of the viaduct.
