Geocache Description:

The cache is near the entrance to the National Park. Please don't come just to collect a cache. Come to spend time to see the heritage and more importantly the view from the lookout.

You will need to travel up a dirt road to get to the cache and the lookout which is a few km further on. Please read the signs for directions and warnings.

The cache location is near the entrance to the National Park. No point coming for the cache if you do not plan to spend some time go into the park. You are just cache hunting. The lookout is why you should come.

Governors Chair lookout at Spicers Gap is one of my favorite of all the places I have travelled too. I come here often, at all times of the year, and it is always different. It will be the 2nd in my 1000 word series (the first was Byron Bay Lighthouse which won a Highly Commended at the 2015 Royal Queensland Show - Ekka)

It was the original route up through the range to get to Toowoomba before the Cunningham Highway and was used in the old days by the bullock teams. There are plaques along the road at various spots describing the history of the track including a marker for graves of the early pioneers and an old watering hole. I suggest you google the area before coming to get the most out of it. There are a few walks which are not short and another cache on the mountain which I have not attempted to find yet (not set up for terrain 4.5).

There is also a campground/picnic area with a drop toilet. There are no shops or fresh water so bring what you need for a fun day out.

The cache is a small tupperware contaner

You need to come in from the Clumber end. Despite what some GPS say the road does not join up and is no longer accessible due to damage of the original road. National Parks has closed it down to preserve the road.

The area is a National Park so please observe all rules and regulations. The cache is placed as close as I could get to the entrance without going over the boundary. It is just off the road. You can park safely though another 20 meters up the road past the gate there is an easy area to pull over.

The road is marked as a 4WD road. I have a done it in a Subaru Outback & Forester without any issues. I have seen normal sedans do it but cannot recommend that and leave it to the discretion of the driver. It is a dry weather road. There are also some big potholes and the last climb into the lookout parking area is short but very steep with a sudden grade change at the top.

Please be careful at the lookout. It is a vertical and sudden drop and there are no barriers. Keep children with you at all times and do not let them venture ahead.

This is my first cache and was driven by the need to find a special place to put my Father’s Day Present from my kids.
