Geocache Description:

Located on SR261 just east of the junction with SR260 - please pull completely off the highway before searching for the cache.

After an accident involving a collision between two trains (confusion over a meet order, McCall or McAdam), the name McAdam was changed to Sperry.  Grain was shipped out on the railroad from the elevator located here.

SP&S RR - Austin and Dill - Pacific Fast Mail

From the SP&S Historical Society: Sperry (Milepost 285.4) was between Harder (Milepost 280.7) and Washtucna (Milepost 291.4), northeast of Kahlotus, in Franklin County. It was originally named McAdam by the Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway Company (the North Bank Line) in honor of Owen McAdam (1848 - June 18, 1912), an old settler who owned land at this site. On November 23, 1943, the town was renamed Sperry possibly in honor of B L Sperry. He was a car service agent and later chief dispatcher. (Dave S, April 29, 2014) There was also an A B Sperry who was a Traveling Freight Agent in the Yakima and Portland area on the Northern Pacific Railway Company. The station operated through to the 1970 merger. No post office for McAdam nor Sperry. Sperry should not be confused with the one in Douglas County, which did have a post office. Franklin (SP&S 285)
