Il Parasio - Breve Storia
Il centro storico di Porto Maurizio è chiamato "Parasio", in dialetto Paràxiu (dal Palatium, un antico torrione quadrato che era usato come fortezza e come carcere - al suo posto, sulla sommità del promontorio, ora c'è una piazzetta alberata). Il quartiere, ancora oggi quasi completamente pedonale, è pieno di caratteristici carùggi (vicoli) che intrecciano la strada principale che sale a spirale fino alla cima. Un tempo era cinto di mura che dal Medioevo in avanti sono state abbattute e ricostruite più esternamente per poter difendere e contenere l'abitato in crescita e poterle adeguare alle diverse tecniche militari. In particolare, il tessuto urbano è costituito da ellissi concentriche che seguono le curve di livello del terreno, collegate da scalinate trasversali secondo un impianto urbano a schema tipicamente strategico-difensivo.

Come arrivare alla cache
Il Parasio è un'area pedonale che è stata oggetto di importanti lavori di rifacimento nel corso del 2015, ed è accessibile solo alle vetture dei residenti. Durante l'estate è possibile utilizzare un bus a "trenino" che gira per tutto Porto Maurizio (compresa la zona del porto e delle spiagge), altrimenti è consigliabile parcheggiare nei pressi della Piazza del Duomo (vedere waypoint parcheggio), per poi entrare nel Parasio a piedi tramite la scalinata che parte dalla statua di San Leonardo e arriva direttamente alla cache.
Un'altra possibilità è usare i tre ascensori che collegano il livello del mare (Borgo Marina - porto turistico) col Parasio. L'ultimo tratto arriva proprio a pochi metri dalla Cache (vedere waypoint).
Scoprire il Parasio partendo dalla cache
La cache si trova in un punto strategico da cui è possibile scorgere una delle cupole del Duomo, e da cui si diramano differenti percorsi che permettono di esplorare tutto il Parasio. Il mio consiglio è di prendervi un'oretta per compiere un giro ad anello (vedere la mappa del percorso nelle foto) che vi permetterà di esplorare i punti notevoli che sono nei dintorni. Non ve ne pentirete!
Una volta trovata la cache, sarete in Piazza Pagliari, su cui si affaccia l'omonimo palazzo, uno dei tanti edifici storici appartenuti alle importanti famiglie locali. Da qui, con una breve scalinata in salita, si arriva alla Piazza della Chiesa Vecchia. Proseguendo si giunge alla piazzetta sulla sommità del Parasio; da qui si dipanano molti piccoli carrugi che offrono scorci molto suggestivi. Superata la piazza, inizia la discesa che vi porterà, attraversando via Vianelli, fino all'Oratorio di San Pietro, che si affaccia sulla costa verso ovest con una visuale che dal mare va fino alle montagne. E' qui che iniziano le "Logge di Santa Chiara": un bellissimo porticato situato alla base di un convento di monache di clausura; si tratta senz'altro di uno dei punti più fotografati del Parasio, con una splendida vista sul mare. Finito il porticato si passerà a fianco della casa natale di San Leonardo (Patrono di Imperia) per giungere infine all'imbocco di Via Zara, che vi riporterà dalla cache.
A un passo dalla cache ci sono una pizzeria e una trattoria tipica. Un altro ottimo ristorante si trova nei pressi del waypoint "carrugi" (perfetto per una cena estiva all'aperto)
Il Parasio - Brief history
The old town of Porto Maurizio is called "Parasio", in dialect Paràxiu (from Palatium, an ancient square tower that was used as a fortress and as a prison - in its place, on top of the promontory, there is now a little square). The district, still almost completely pedestrian, is full of "carrugi" (very small streets) that intertwine the main road that spirals up to the top. How to get to the cache
Parasio is a pedestrian area subject of renovation works during 2015, and only the cars of residents can access it. During the summer season you can use a "train bus" that runs throughout Porto Maurizio (including the area of the harbour and beaches), otherwise it is advisable to park near the "Piazza del Duomo" (see waypoints parking), then enter the Parasio walking through the steps starting from the statue of St. Leonard and it will bring you directly to the cache.
Another way is to use the 3 elevators that link the sea level with the Parasio. The upper elevator stops directly a few meters far from the Cache (see waypoint Elevator)
Discover the Parasio starting from cache
The cache is located in a strategic point from which you can see one of the domes of the Cathedral. From the cache, many trails start, and you can use them to explore around. My advice is to take about an hour to make a loop-tour (see the route map in the pictures) and this will allow you to explore the major points that are around here. You will not regret it!
When you'll find the cache, you'll be in Piazza Pagliari, just in front of the builing with the same name. This is one of many historical buildings owned, in the past, by important and rich local families. From here, with a short stairway, you'll reach Piazza della Chiesa Vecchia ("Old Church Square"). Going on, you'll reach the little square on the very top of the Parasio. From here, a lot of "carrugi" offer beautiful views. Passed the square, the descent will take you to cross Via Vianelli to reach the oratory of St. Peter, just in front to the west coast of Imperia, with a great view from the sea to the mountains. It's here that the famous "Logge di Santa Chiara" start: an awesome porch at the base of a monastery of cloistered nuns; it is certainly one of the most photographed spot in the Parasio, with wonderful views of the sea. After the porch, you'll see the house where San Leonardo was born (Patron Saint of Imperia) and finally you'll reach the entrance of Via Zara, that will bring you back to the cache.
Near the cache there is a Pizzeria and a tipical restaurant. Another good restaurant is near the waypoint "Carrugi" (perfect for a summer dinner).
