[it] Due frammenti delle Torri gemelle

di New York sono l’ asse portante del monumento alle vittime
dell’ attentato dell’ 11 settembre, che e’ stato inaugurato oggi
in piazza Manzoni a Modena alla presenza del sindaco Giuliano
Barbolini e del prefetto Italia Fortunati, del console generale
statunitense William Mc Ilhenny, di una delegazione della
Municipalita’ di New York, guidata da Linda K. Gras,
inviata dal sindaco Bloomberg, e del Fire Department di New
York. C’era anche padre Mario Balbi, cappellano del porto di New
York, in rappresentanza della NY Port Authority.


L’ opera e’ stata promossa dal Lions club Modena Estense con
la collaborazione del Comune di Modena: i due frammenti d’
acciaio delle Twin towers, recuperati dopo il crollo e donati
alla citta’ da Saima Avandero, sono stati incastonati in un
monumento, ideato e progettati da Mauro Martini e Carlo
Guidetti. Su due blocchi di marmo, l’ opera raffigura due globi
vicini e interpreta simbolicamente il complesso rapporto
Occidente e Oriente, fra noi e il mondo islamico.

”L’ intersecarsi dei due globi – spiegano i progettisti –
esprime l’ auspicio di un futuro di pace e di convivenza fra le
civilta’ e le culture”. ”C’e’ un simbolismo universale in
questo monumento – ha detto il consolo statunitense – Ci ricorda
di tutti coloro che hanno sofferto in maniera immane”. Il
monumento e’ collocato di fronte alla stazione delle Ferrovie
provinciali.

 

[en]Two fragments of the Twin Towers

New York is the 'cornerstone of the monument to the victims
of 'attack of' September 11, and that 'it was inaugurated today
Piazza Manzoni in Modena in the presence of Mayor Giuliano
Barbolini and prefect of Italy Fortunati, the Consul General
American William Mc Ilhenny, a delegation of
Municipalities' of New York, led by Linda K. Gras,
sent by Mayor Bloomberg, and the Fire Department of New
York. There was also father Mario Balbi, chaplain of the port of New
York, representing the NY Port Authority.


The 'work' was sponsored by the Lions Club Modena Estense
the collaboration of the Municipality of Modena: the two fragments d '
Twin towers of steel, recovered after the collapse and donated
the city 'by Saima Avandero, were embedded in a
monument, conceived and designed by Mauro Martini and Carlo
Guidetti. On two marble blocks, the 'work depicts two globes
neighbors and symbolically portrays the complex relationship
West and East, between us and the Muslim world.
