Cannon Point is a moderately demanding walk on a well formed track, in the hills to the north of Upper Hutt. It is 10 km long and passes through private land and Greater Wellington's Akatarawa forest. It is great for walkers, runners and mountain bikers, so you never know who will be coming around the bend next.
This is part of a series of caches around great Wellington hill climbs. You need to gather clues from each cache in the series in order to solve a final puzzle series, so make sure you take note of every piece of information you are asked to collect. You will need it for the final series.
At the published co-ordinates is an information board. You will need to collect some information from this board to find the cache. It is also the starting point for Welly Climbs: Valley View Forest.
The elevation of the i-site nearest the "You are here" = DD
The sum of the maximum number of hours it is noted it would take you to walk the Cannon Point Walkway, Karapoti Challenge and Karapoti Classic = EE
WP2 for this cache is found at:
S41 06.alpha bravo charlie E175 04.xray yankee zulu
where:
alpha = the first digit of EE
bravo = the first digit of DD - the sum of EE
charlie = the last digit of DD - the second digit of DD - the last digit of EE
xray = the first digit of DD
yankee = the sum of the first and second digits of DD
zulu = the last digit of DD
the checksum for alpha + bravo + charlie + xray + yankee + zulu = 17
at WP2, there is an obvious structure. There is a four-digit number on this structure, this = GG
The final cache location is at:
S41 06.delta echo foxtrot E175 04.uniform victor whisky
where:
delta = the first digit of GG - the fourth digit of GG
echo = the fourth digit of GG - the first digit of EE
foxtrot = the first digit of GG + the second digit of EE
uniform = the third digit of GG + the second digit of DD
victor = the fourth digit of GG - the first digit of DD
whisky = the sum of the second and fourth digits of GG
checksum delta + echo + foxtrot + uniform + victor + whisky = 25
the cache is a camo'd bison tube, with a log only. Please bring your own pen.
