ENGLISH VERSION:
Lara Croft was daydreaming, in her hand she held a script.
By the looks of it the parchment must be centuries old.
On the cover was written in Latin, "The Divine Crusade of the Knight L'Ours.
If you consider this you will know that the Crusades took place in the Middle Ages.
Lara Croft saw everything in her daydream, the Crusades to the Holy Land, the monks in their monasteries with their abbot. And of course you have in the Middle Ages the knights and their squires.
For hours she had been reading the script, a very hard job because she had to translate the text from Latin while she was reading it.
Not an easy task when you consider that it was written in medieval Latin and not in the current Latin as we know it now. Lara Croft was startled out of her reverie, meanwhile it was already late at night.
Tired she rubbed her eyes and gently closed the manuscript.
Immediately she was lost again in thought, still how odd she thought ...
That this story took place in Beernem, there where she has experienced an adventure by bad luck last year (see GC5HJ06).
That the script really would lead her back to Beernem she would experience a few days later.
When storing the manuscript she had been less vigilant by her absent-mindedness than usual, and she had not noticed that therefor she had damaged the cover of the manuscript.
This made that a little hiding place opened up where a tiny piece of parchement was hidden. The object was whirled out and ended up under the desk.
It would be found a few days later by her loyal butler Winston Smith.
Lara Croft’s new adventure so would only start a few days later.
However, the found piece of parchment is only the beginning of a difficult quest where one solved puzzle only leeds to another.
NEDERLANDSE VERSIE:
Lara Croft zat in gedachten verzonken naar het manuscript voor zich te staren.
Aan het perkament te zien was het voorwerp van haar overpeinzingen al eeuwenoud.
Op de kaft stond in het Latijn geschreven 'De Goddelijke Kruistocht van Heer Ridder L'Ours.
Als je dit in de geschiedenis probeert te plaatsen weet je al dat de kruistochten plaats gevonden hebben in de Middeleeuwen. Lara Croft zag het allemaal voor zich in haar dagdroom, de kruistochten naar het heilige land, de monikken in hun abdijen met hun abt. En natuurlijk had je in de middeleeuwen ook de ridders met hun schildknapen en daarbij kwam natuurlijk ook de hoofse liefde aan het hof.
Uren had ze zitten lezen in het manuscript, dat ze moest zien te vertalen vanuit het Latijn. Geen gemakkelijke opgave als je bedenkt dat het geschreven was in het Middeleeuws Latijn en niet in het huidige Latijn zoals wij het nu kennen.
Lara Croft schrok op uit haar overpeinzingen, het was ondertussen al diep in de nacht. Vermoeid veegde ze wat losgekomen haren uit haar gezicht en sloot voorzichtig het manuscript.
Meteen was ze weer in gedachten verzonken, gek toch dacht ze...
Dat dit verhaal zich gedeeltelijk afspeelt in Beernem, daar waar ze vorig jaar nog maar door stomme pech een heel avontuur had meegemaakt (zie GC5HJ06).
Dat dit manuscript haar echt weer naar Beernem zou leiden zou ze pas enkele dagen later ontdekken.
Bij het opbergen van het manuscript was ze door haar verstrooidheid iets minder oplettend geweest dan anders en ze had niet gemerkt dat ze de kaft van het manuscript beschadigd had. Hierdoor was een geheime berglocatie van een miniscuul stukje perkament open gegaan en het kleine verborgen voorwerp was eruit gedwarreld en onder het bureau terecht gekomen.
Het zou pas een paar dagen later gevonden worden door haar trouwe butler Winston Smith.
Lara Croft haar nieuwe avontuur zou dus enkele dagen later pas starten.
Het gevonden stukje perkament is echter pas het begin van een moeilijke zoektocht waar het ene raadsel het andere opvolgt.
