History of the park: Around 1900, a tower was erected by the City Parks and Recreation Department at the pinnacle of Hastings Park, the former Mystic Mount. Made of water-washed rocks salvaged from a stone retaining wall which was being replaced around the park, this tower (sometimes erroneously thought to be a Revolutionary War-era powder house or signal tower) still exists, but can no longer be climbed.
