I was introduced to Island Lake State Recreation Area many years ago by my SCUBA club, the Ford Sea Lancers. I thought I knew the park but now realize I knew Spring Mill Pond as that's where we maintained the swim area buoys and dove on a regular basis. Geocaching has introduced me to the rest of the park. This cache is my attempt to introduce others to the wonders of this beautiful park.
I was very surprised when I visited here this week to learn that this was the summer camp of Michigan's National Guard during the Spanish American War. Be sure to check out the historical marker near the pavilion . The container can accommodate small items of trade. BYOP
