The Middle O' Nowhere Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Accident Prone Hiker: It is with a heavy heart that I must archive this cache. It was my first hide, so you all understand the sentimental value. But the logging has destroyed the area (See photos below). It is now as close as 50 yards from the cache site. Thanks to the knee-deep mud, this is no longer a fun area to hike. Look for a new cache to appear in the general vicinity soon!

Geocache Description:

This cache is nestled in the backwoods of Greene County, Pennsylvania. It's located in PA State Game Lands #179. When you exit your vehicle, you will be greeted by the aroma of wild spearmint. The wildlife is diverse and abundant. The cache is not visible to the casual observer. I did this because the area gets filled with hunters during deer season, and I don't want any of them to stumble upon the cache. The parking isn't the best. The right side of the road is the gamelands, but the left is private, complete with "No Tresspassing" signs. There are some areas along the gamelands side where you can pull off the road. Be careful though, the shoulder of the road drops off pretty far in places. I parked near a closed gate in front of an access road. From that spot, it's an easy hike to the cache. A few safety notes: If you go during deer or small game hunting season, wear a blaze orange coat and hat. Also, I almost hit several deer and four cows on the day I hid the cache, so drive safely. I hope you enjoy this one, it's my first hide.

Directions:
Take I-79 to the Waynesburg exit. Make a right off the exit onto Rt 21. You'll come to a "T" intersection with a stoplight. Make a right. This is still Rt 21. Stay on this all the way through Waynesburg. As you leave Waynesburg you'll pass an Amoco station. You'll pass another one in about a mile. Start looking for a sign that says "Oak Forest" with an arrow to the left. When you see that sign, take the next left. You are now on Oak Forest Rd. Enjoy it, it's a nice drive with two historic covered bridges on the right. After about 10-15 minutes, you'll come to a "T" intersection with a stop sign. Make a right. You are now 7.5 miles from the gate I mentioned above. Stay straight on this road. 3 miles from the stop sign the road makes a sharp bend to the left. Follow this. Do not go straight onto the gravel road. You'll come to another stop sign. Stay straight. You'll enter a town called Jollytown. There is a statue / monument on the left as you leave town. You'll come to a fork in the road shortly, bear right. The gate is now about 1.5 miles on the right. These directions sound complicated, but they're pretty easy.

Have Fun!
