Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Durack Monument, a metal replica of a bronco panel used by early stockman to brand, earmark, castrate and dehorn the cattle.

The Duracks came out from Ireland in 1853 to avoid starving to death. The family started with 273 acres near Goulburn NSW and by 1877 had taken up 2,432,000 acres in remote western Queensland. In 1881 the Duracks in partnership with Solomon Emanuel, reserved 2,500,000 acres in Western Australia mostly along the as yet unmapped Ord River.

The cache is a small screw top container. There are many interesting information boards at the monument so enjoy the cache ad the history lesson.
