Mt. Coolidge Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Jedi Cacher: Due to the uncooperative nature of CSP officials, I am forever archiving this cache. This cache has been around for many years and is an old classic. Back when geocaching first began and dinosaurs roamed the earth. Well, not that far back I guess. I tried my best to keep it alive, but I have no choice. Farewell my old cache in the park. [:(][xx(]

Geocache Description:

This cache is located just off Hwy 87. From here you will take a 1 mile gravel road to the summit. There is a parking area located at the top. Note: The gravel road may be closed during the winter months. Also use extra caution as there are no guardrails and the roads have a steep drop-off.

Mt.Coolidge stands at an elevation of 6023ft. The fire lookout tower was constructed in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps. From this vantage point you can see Mt.Rushmore, Harney Peak, the Needles, Crazy Horse, Badlands and Ellsworth AFB. I have adopted this cache from JimnClora that was originally entitled "Goldn 50th". They placed this cache for a fellow geocacher named Dakota Ladybug and it was in honor of her parents' 50th wedding anniversary. I wanted this cache to live on, as it has special meaning and the views are spectacular. The container was in need of repair, so I have replaced it with a medium sized camo lock-n-lock and re-stocked it with goodies. Enjoy the adventure!
