Geocache Description:

This cache is dedicated to Slovene national holiday - The Day of Sovereignity which is on 25 October.

In legal terms, Slovenia became a sovereign state on 25 June 1991 with the promulgation of the Basic Constitutional Charter on the Sovereignty and Independence of the Republic of Slovenia and the ten-day war in early July. After the intervention of the European Union at Brioni, there have been negotiations between Croatia, Yugoslavia and Slovenia. It was signed Brioni Declaration, on 10 July confirmed by the Slovenian parliament. That was the basis for the beginning of negotiations on the withdrawal of the Yugoslav National Army from Slovenia.>

From the port of Koper the Yugoslav army began to withdraw on 20 October 1991. 25 October 1991 was fixed as the last day of the withdrawal. In the night from 25 to 26 October 1991, the ship sailed with the last soldiers of the Yugoslav Army. Last Yugoslav National Army soldiers boarded the ships, which sailed under foreign flags and were therefore under international law foreign territory. With the departure of the last soldier the Ministry of Defense took over the management of all military facilities on the territory of the Republic of Slovenia.
