Our first ever geocache. Enjoy.
Ruislip Lido was created in 1811 as Ruislip Reservoir, built as a feeder for the Grand Union Canal. In the 1920’s the reservoir was used for skating and swimming. In 1936 however, the Lido was redeveloped into a leisure area for the public, and in its heyday attractions included rowing and paddle boats, a beach with a swimming area, a miniature railway and a children's playground. The Lido also became renowned as a water skiing area, with the world championships being televised from there. Upon the success of the Lido during the 1970s the then Council started to charge a steep admission charge which was very unpopular and put people off visiting the area. This led to the end of the Lido as a major attraction. The Lido today pulls a crowd on sunny days all year round, and is a popular area for local families and dog walkers.
