Geocache Description:


"On Eagle's Wings" is a devotional song composed by Father Michael Joncas in 1975. Its words are based on Psalm 91 and Isaiah 40:31. It is sung in churches of many denominations including Pentecostal churches.

This song and this place has special meaning to me. This small cemetery located just outside the town of Portage is a place I go to remember my Grandma, who sadly passed away in 2003 from cancer. I was very close to her, and spent time in this cemetery with her. She was active in her church, and they had a ceremony in this cemetery, blessing each and every grave. My grandma didn't drive, so I took her to these ceremonies often. When you pull up, you'll see why this was quite a feat, going around to each grave. The cemetery is built on a steep hill. As I was struggling to catch my breath during these ceremonies, my grandma (who was in her 70s at that time!) just kept on going with the priest, singing along as he went on to each grave. So now, when I go to visit her at this cemetery, I think of those times, and park way at the bottom and make the steep climb to the top to her grave. This is how I recommend you park to find this cache. The climb to the top is steep, but short and manageable. Park on Cemetery Road, by the cement stairs. This should be an easy park n grab (after the short climb), but while you're up there, please take time to enjoy the view! You can see the other reason I called this cache, "On Eagle's Wings"! Also, as this is a cemetery, please be respectful and no night caching. Happy caching!
