Najkrajším a neodmysliteľným symbolom Vianoc sa stal vianočný stromček. Obľúbili si ho ľudia na celom svete. Jeho história sa začala písať v nemeckom protestanskom prostredí. Nevie sa presne, v ktorej krajine si ľudia na Vianoce začali ozdobovať svoje príbytky ozdobenou drevinou. Ale v podobe, v akej vianočný stromček poznáme dnes, existuje už viac ako 400 rokov.
Do 19. storočia bol len mestskou rekvizitou. Na vidieku sa začal objavovať až v 20. storočí, najmä po 1. svetovej vojne. Do Ameriky ho priniesli hessenské oddiely Juraja III., v čase bojov za nezávislosť.
Do Veľkej Británie sa dostal až v roku 1829, keď princezná Lievenská usporiadala v Hertfordshire večierok pre deti. Ale naozaj neoddeliteľnou súčasťou sviatočného obdobia sa stal až potom, keď ho v roku 1841 vztýčil princ Albert na Windsorskom zámku.
V roku 1815 sa spomína prvý stromček v Gdansku, v roku 1817 vo Viedni, v roku 1819 v Budíne, v roku 1837 v Paríži, v roku 1828 vo Westminsterskom paláci v Londýne a v roku 1833 v Ríme.

The most beautiful and indispensable symbol of Christmas has become the Christmas tree. People from all around the world have fallen in love with them. Its history began in Protestant Germany. It is not known which country people first started decorating their trees for Christmas. But in the form which we now recognise has certainly been around for more than 400 years.
The 19th century it was only in urban settings. It began to emerge in the countryside in the 20th century, especially after the first World War. They were brought to America by Hessian troops, at the time fighting for independence against George III.
The tree was used in Great Britain in 1829, when Princess Dorothea von Lieven, wife of the German ambassador set up the trees to amuse the children at Charles Greville Christmas party in Hertfordshire. But it only became an integral part of the festive season when one was erected in 1841 by Prince Albert at Windsor Castle.
In 1815, the first tree is mentioned in Gdansk, in 1817 in Vienna, in 1819 in Buda, in 1837 in Paris in 1828 in the Palace of Westminster in London and in 1833 in Rome
