This cache is placed to Thank all those weather observers that launch weather balloons twice a day to gather information on upper winds and temperatures.
These balloons can reach altitudes on 90,000 feet before the balloon bursts. The balloon size can be the size of a small house at this altitude.
The information gathered at these upper air stations is invaluable to pilots and the forecasting of weather to the general public. These launches happen twice a day here at 1115 Z and 2315 Z.
If you are here at the launch time feel free to venture up the road to watch.
