This micro container is hidden near to the entrance doors to Camphill Church which locals will know as Queens Park Baptist Church. While in the area, there are a number of other geocaches close by and this cache can be added on to the start or end of a visit to Queens Park. It’s my first hide so I hope you enjoy it.
Camphill Church was built in the 1870’s by the members of the nearby Queens Park United Presbyterian Church. Designed in the French Gothic style by Architect William Leiper the façade has a number of interesting carvings, notably the typmpanum roundel with four musicians and a large open winged angel holding a gospel. The angel was designed and sculptured by John G Mossman whose other work includes the statue of Sir Robert Peel in George Square and the statue of David Livingstone at the entrance to Glasgow Cathedral's precinct.
To the rear of the building are three impressive lancet stained glass windows designed by Daniel Cottier. If the building is open, and it often is, then a trip inside to admire the windows and also the painted ceiling is worthwhile.
In the 1990’s the building was purchased from the Church of Scotland and extensively and sympathetically renovated by the congregation of nearby Queens Park Baptist Church.
