The Bridge Street Wesleyan Cemetery is located on the corner of Bridge and Marsden Streets and dates from the time when all burials in the district were made in denominational cemeteries. It was controlled by the Methodist Church up until the time it was closed in 1901. At that time it was taken over by the Lower Hutt Borough (now City) Council.
In 1912 Bridge Street was extended, encroaching on part of the cemetery. A memorial plaque was erected in the cemetery recording the names of people in the affected graves.
