Le plus beau panorama du Puy de Dôme ? Ce sera à vous de le dire. Pour le découvrir, il faut prendre la petite route en lacets qui conduit jusqu'au village de Brionnet. Après l'avoir dépassé, on monte encore un peu, on prend un petit chemin... et on se trouve face à face avec la roche de Brionnet. C'est une masse basaltique se terminant en forme d'aiguille et à la pointe de laquelle est érigée une minuscule chapelle.
La Chapelle de Notre-Dame du Mont-Carmel, puisque tel est son vrai nom, offre au soleil son rustique toit de lauzes. On n'a pas de documents concernant cette chapelle qui date d'avant le XVIIe siècle. On sait seulement qu'elle a été restaurée vers l877 et qu'on y trouve sous le nom de Notre-Dame de la Roche une statue de la Vierge datant du XVIe siècle.
La légende raconte que, pendant la Révolution, cette statue fut dissimulée par trois pieuses femmes et que l'on continua à la vénérer en cachette. Par la suite, rendue a son sanctuaire, elle fit l'objet d'un pèlerinage local qui fut fixe au dimanche suivant la fête de Notre-Dame du Mont-Carmel. Ce jour-la, et la tradition est encore très vivace aujourd'hui, on dresse un autel en plein air au sommet de la roche de Brionnet ou se rassemblent en masse les fidèles de la région.
Cette chapelle a été très joliment restaurée en l983 grâce au concours de la municipalité de Saurier... les matériaux étant monté jusqu'au sommet du pic a dos d'homme comme autrefois ! Puis, en 1986, une association locale a pris le relais afin de poursuivre la restauration de la chapelle, l'entretien du site et la pérennité de la fête religieuse annuelle.
La vue à 360° depuis le sommet vous coupera le souffle. Si vous avez trouvé la cache en passant vous pourrez faire sonner la cloche de la chapelle comme le veut la tradition Pas de chance la corde a disparue et une partie du tour de la chapelle est maintenant grillagé !

The most beautiful panorama in Puy de Dôme ?
To discover it you will have to take the small road in laces which leads to the village of Brionnet. Then you will face with the rock of Brionnet. It is a basaltic mass finishing in the shape of needle and to the forefront of which a tiny vault is set up. The Chapelle de Notre-Dame of the Mount-Carmel offers to the sun his rustic roof of stones.
There are not documents concerning this vault built probably before the 17th century. We just know it was restored towards l877 and that somebody finds a statue of the Virgin dating from the 16th century. The legend tells that, during the Revolution, this statue was dissimulated by three women and continued to be venerated it in hiding-place. Returned thereafter in its sanctuary it was the object of a local pilgrimage which was fixed on the sunday next to the festival of Notre-Dame of the Mount-Carmel. That day, and the tradition is still very long-lived today, there is a mass at the top of the rock with a lot of people attending.
This vault was very nicely restored in l983 thanks to the municipality of Saurier… Then, in 1986, a local association took over in order to continue the restoration of the vault, the maintenance of the site and the perenniality of the annual religious event.
The 360° panorama is just incredible and when you find the cache it is mandatory to climb up the hill to ring the bell !
This place being visited by people coming from all around Europe it seems to be a good cache for TB.
