Porque, Como...???
Bueno básicamente porque esa nueva roca solidificada por el impedimento de su extrusion, es de un material mas duro, resistente y por lo tantoi menos meteorizable ante los agentes externos, como la lluvia, el viento o la gravedad.
Es decir, recapitulamos que el Neck fue el conducto volcánico por donde antes fluía el magma para ser extruido a la superficie, pero ahora ese conducto hueco, antes activo ahora esta relleno con su propio magma y todo el material que rodeaba a dicho cuerpo fue erosionado por lo que lo único que vemos nosotros es el conducto rellenado.
En el caso puntual de este Neck, podemos apreciar que se trata de una roca acida, mas concretamente una Riolita (equivalente extrusivo de un granito) esta roca es rica en Feldespatos potasicos, los cuales tienen una coloracion rojiza, por lo cual el cuello volcanico hereda la coloracion de la mineralogia que la compone.
El magmatismo de este volcan esta directamente relacionado con la formacion del Grupo ChoiYoi el cual por datacion radimetrica (isotopica por el metodo Rb/Sr) arrojo una edad de 330M.A lo cual cituaria al neck en el periodo Carbonifero Inferior.
Algunos Neck precentan una estructura particular llamada Disyuncion Columnar, este tipo de estructura es caracteristica de las coladas lavicas y cuerpos igneos extrusivos, ya que se producen al momento del enfriamiento del magma y por fuerzas tensionales, que fracturan / diaclasan la roca en el caso de los cuellos volcanicos tipicos podremos ver fracturas paralelas en el sentido del alargamiento del cuello volcanico, y paralelas o subparalelas entre si formando una especie de columnas tipicamente hexagonales.
