Why did I bring you here? To see beavers in their natural habitat...upfront and personal!
We are very fortunate to live in an area that allows us to get up close and experience wildlife like the beaver. This den is located within a campsite on the Long Sault Parkway. During the off season accessing the site is free. During the summer season (May-Sept) there is a small fee to access the park.
You will see their beaver hut is located right at the end of a culvert. I think our beavers like the added protection of the culvert or they treat it like their garage. In front of the hut you will notice their food floating on the water but anchored for easy access during the winter months. They travel the waters near the hut to build up this supply.
If you are present early in the morning or at dusk you may see the beavers at work. Stay very quiet and still to take in the show but when you hear the loud whack of the tail on the water you will know you were discovered.
Enjoy this opportunity to get close to the beavers.
