The Real McCoys aired from 1957 to 1962 and starred Walter Brennan (Grandpa Amos McCoy), Richard Crenna (Luke McCoy) and Kathy Nolan (as newlywed Kate McCoy ), along with Luke's younger siblings, Lydia Reed (Hassie) and Michael Winkleman (Little Luke). The McCoys were farmers from West Virginia who inherited a farm in the San Fernando Valley of California. Grandpa was stubborn and stuck on his hillbilly ways but often taught the younger generation a thing or two about bigotry, ethics, and other issues reflecting Walter Brennan's conservative views. The theme song closed the show with the lyrics: "Livin' as good folks should live, as happy as kids with toys. Week after week you're gonna be showed another human episode of Grandpappy Amos and the girls and the boys of the family known as The Real McCoys." Like many shows of this era, guest stars were prominent. Some were already famous others just getting started. The list includes Tom Skerritt, Lee Van Cleef, Beau Bridges, Sterling Holloway (voice of Winnie the Pooh), Jack Albertson, Pat Buttram (Mr Haney on Green Acres), Adam West (Batman), Nancy Culp (Miss Jane on Beverly Hillbillies), and Tina Louise (Ginger on Gilligan's Island). The show began dropping in ratings after changing networks and being slotted against Bonanza.
