Ahhh, the dentist office, we've all been there; some have perfect teeth, the rest of us don't. One of my worst experiences at the dentist, through no fault of my dentist at all, was a broken tooth. I was eating breakfast one morning and felt something sharp lodged in my gum-line. Turns out, it was a sliver from a broken tooth! Made an emergency visit to the dentist the next morning; it took about an hour and a half to dig the broken piece out, grind the broken tooth down and cap it with a temporary until I could get to a specialist. That night, the temporary cap popped off because there really wasn't anything left for it to hold on to; had to go back in to get it refitted. Because the tooth broke off on an angle below the gum-line, I needed a procedure called a crown-lengthening; this is where a specialist cuts a flap in the gums and grinds away part of the bone that holds the tooth in to make way for the crown to fit. After that healed, the broken tooth was too narrow to hold a crown so, a post was installed in what was left of the broken tooth. The rest of the tooth was built-up, like a body man fixes a dented up car after an accident; and then, the crown was installed. All said and done, the whole experience took almost two months to complete.
