Geocache Description:

EPIC = Exploring Pender Island Caching

The lands and waters of Pender Island are home to a rich diversity of bird species, as well as a great stopping place during spring and fall migrations. The islands provide a nurturing array of critical habitats where birds may nest and produce off-spring. The Heart Trail will take you to the site of a unique bird habitat. that is now home to a cache as well.

Spotted towhees, dark-eyed juncos, downy woodpeckers, redbreasted nuthatches, kinglets, Pacifc wrens, and brown creepers abound within this moist forest. Be on the lookout for a 1 meter tall hollow stump of a mature Douglas Fir that now provides shelter for our featured friends. You'll have to leave the main trail a bit when you get within 10 m. of GZ, but no serious bushwhacking is involved. GPS reception can be a bit bouncy at first, but will settle down eventually. BYOP!
