Geocache Description:

This Church Micro replaces former  GC1RC7V Flexbury Park Methodist Church

Flexbury Park Methodist Church was opened in April 1905 and stands on the junction of Flexbury Park with Flexbury Park Road with it’s spire it is the focal point of the area. At that time Bude was expanding to the Flexbury area (the golf course still divides the town area from Flexbury) a group of Free Methodists decided to move from a comparatively new church (currently known as ‘Neetside’ and was for sometime the Drill Hall) in the town. The site was made available by Messrs. Butler of Bristol and plans drawn by Mr John Pethick. The stone except the cornerstones was raised in the nearby quarry where Quarry Close now stands. The pitch pine for the roof principals and the seats came from the deck cargo of a steamer caught in a storm between Trevose and Lundy and large baulks were washed ashore at Bude which were bought by Pethick Brothers the builders of the church. The panels of the alter are of poplar which were cut down on the site of the church
The church closed in 2008 due to problems with the structure and the congregation joined that of Central Methodist Church. The two churches have merged into a United Methodist Church with the service held for that on Sunday 11th May 2009.
The future of the church is currently unknown to the public but it may be used by another denomination or as a place of public use.
To claim this cache the church grounds, golf course and flood defence scheme do not need to be entered nor do any hedge stones need moving. Wheelchair users can get near the site of the cache but would not be able to retrieve it.
Please bring your own pen or pencil as being a micro it contains only the log.
