51 Strangers become Friends (Now 14) Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Pinkpiggy7: After reconsideration of the options at the site, which council have left very few options, and the one very small area possible will also shortly be gobbled up, and the fact that in reality it has become easier then when originally devised (not really a 4.5 anymore IMO), we have decided to archive this one.

259 finders and about 250 of those were on the one weekend, I think it has had a good and prosperous life.

Geocache Description:

Most teams generally cache on their own, or in limited group sizes, or with the same people all the time.  But when you get together at an event or for a group assault on a cache, there is a lot of laughter and fun, you also get to meet total strangers, who you often have seen logs or hides from but have never had the pleasure to meet.

Well this is a different opportunity to meet and have a great time with fellow cachers, and at the same time you have a challenge to complete to sign the log.

Originally this cache required you to have 51 devices to receive the final coordinates, we did this for the Melbourne Mega Event, but now as the event is over we thought we should lower the numbers to make the find more realistic, so we have made it 14. Although we have kept the name the same to remember what this cache once was.

Requirements to compete this cache

  • 14 or more Strangers (well could be friends, but strangers would be more fun)
  • 14 Smartphone devices with internet and location services
  • 1 minute or 51 minutes, it just depends how long it takes to get your bearings.

After you finish the cache

  • 14 Friends
  • 14 laughs
  • 1 Smiley

As noted to complete this cache you will need 14 cachers to all gather within a radius of 30 metres of the listed co-ordinates. then follow the instructions:-

  1. Open your browser and go to https://geotrailsw.com/mob/.
  2. You will be asked which mob you are attending enter 1741
  3. You will all now have a screen which shows your distance from the zone, and how many are in the zone (ie. 7/14)
  4. Move until the ""distance shown"" places you within 40 feet of the zone.  If your device is showing you as being many miles away, check your location services are turned on correctly.
  5. We have set the radius size to 30 metres so hopefully you dont have to cuddle up to closely
  6. Once the current mob size reaches 51, all attendee's will be shown the final co-ordinates for the cache and log, there will also be a hint for opening the cache, take careful note of this
  7. Take a walk to the cache, sign the log (we have included 4 notepads to speed up the signing process), and have a chat and a laugh

Considering the size of the mob, think of muggles and how you can  arrange to have the log signed in an inconspicous way, will it look odd having 14 people gathered around a hide, or is that normal?

Note that following The Melbourne Event which will be held in this area the size of the challenge will be reduced,  but please try to get this cache prior to this as the more the merrier, and help make this fun challenge happen.
