Geocache Description:

Continuing my new series:  My Favorite Foreign Caches.  I've been fortunate enough to visit some other countries, mostly because my son is in the Air Force and I've been able to visit him while he has been stationed overseas.

My favorite foreign cache in London was The South Bank Lion, GC1BEM6.  The cache page says this about the cache:

A cache on the south bank, visit at night best a it gives a great view of the Big Ben.
The South Bank Lion was originally red in colour, due to it being located outside the Red Lion Brewery, which was demolished to make way for the Royal Festival Hall. Thanks to George VI the Lion was saved, and was moved outside Waterloo Station. When the station was made bigger in 1966 the Lion was moved to its current home. The lion was then renamed the ‘South Bank Lion’. The Coade Stone statue was designed by W.F. Woodington, and is 13 feet long and 12 feet high, and weighs over 13 tons.

I was honored to meet the Cache Owner, DorsetGal, this summer while visiting Seattle for the 2015 Geocaching Block Party.

Here is my log from my find, March 22, 2009:

We arrived in London today and of course I had to try to find a few caches. Tried this one before riding the Eye without luck. Found it afterwards after expanding my search, coords seemed a bit off to me. TNLNSL. Thanks for my first London cache! RedhedMary from Michigan, USA. #1495

The cache is hidden in the Wittenbach/Wege Nature Center.  I did see a river and cross a bridge today, but neither are near GZ of this cache.
