This is a quick Park and Grab, however if you cross the stile and take the clifftop (beware if you have children!!) track to your left down to the beach....
Turning right from the bottom of the cliff path can take you to the mouth of the Awatere. The river quite regularly blocks up and creates a lagoon full of flounder, small fish, birdlife etc (at least until the next flood when it breaks out ! ).
