Geocache Description:

This cache has been placed by the Department of Conservation as part of Conservation Week (10-18 September 2016).

It is advisable to print out the geocaching description before heading out to find the cache as there may be no cell phone coverage in this area.  Cache container contains a logbook but bring your own pen.


To locate this cache you will need to find the hidden 'mini DOC hut' named Mangatainoka.

At Lake Tutira from the main entrance follow the road over the causeway between the two lakes.  Just before you reach the cattle stop look for the small hill on the right hand side.  Look for the group of cabbage trees.  Decrypt the hint below to find the cache.

Enjoy a walk around the Waikopiro Circular Track  (1.1km/20mins) or take the longer Tutira Walkway  Either the Short loop 5km/2hrs or Long loop via Gailbraiths track (5hrs) or via Kahikanui Track (4.5hrs).  Names after the lake and district it overlooks, the Tutira Walkway passes through Tutira Station and the adjoining reserve.  Please note that these tracks are closed from August until the end of September.
