This was originally titled "Follow the Flags" but someone removed several flags so it has been changed. This cache is found on the Wapiti Nordic Centre which is a few kilometres south of Grande Prairie on Hwy. 40. Summer pass update as of Jan. 22, 2016 - for the summers, geocachers are allowed access to this property one time at no cost so they can experience this wonderful tract of land. To return again for more geocaching, hiking, running or bike riding a summer pass must be purchased.
This cache was titled "Follow the Flags" but people have removed the flags, thus it is renamed. In winter, walking on the trails is not allowed and an annual pass ($132 for adults and $100 for seniors (over 65 yrs.) in 2016) is required for cross country skiing or a day pass ($10 for adults and $6 for seniors) can be purchased a the lodge. See www.wapitinordic.com . Off season, which is no snow, a summer pass for $30 is required. In the summer (the Off season) the trails are open to bikers and hikers looking for a natural environment. Dogs are also allowed, but ONLY in the off season (and please pick up after them). The ski trails are groomed in the winter months. In ski season a day pass will be necessary and can be picked up at the Nordic Centre.
Park at the main parking lot close to the Steve Cooper Lodge. Walk to the firepit area and head on the trail up the hill just in front of the firepit. It veers left at the first junction.
Keep walking and turn right off this trail onto a single track path. The cache is in a camoflagued jar. Do not disturb any timber to access it. Just find the release. Take care to restore this cache site to the way you found it.
