Grad Školj
V SSKJ najdemo razlago: školj = večja skala, ki štrli iz morja ali iz okoliške (bolj ravne) zemlje. V obmorskih krajih se pogosto uporablja besedo školj za zelo majhen otok.
In tako pridemo do gradu Školj. Ruševine gradu se nahajajo na skalni vzpetini (oziroma školju) visoko nad notranjsko reko Reko blizu kraja Famlje in blizu Škocjana pri Divači, na robu Regijskega parka Škocjanske jame. V pisnih virih je prvič omenjen leta 1426, ko je bil lastnik gradu vitez Erhardus von Scolcum. Raziskave kažejo, da je bil zgrajen v 13. stoletju in je služil kot manjša rezidenca za Grofe iz Devina (Italija). Skozi stoletja je grad zamenjal veliko lastnikov, v 16. stoletju preide v last barona Rosettija, ki je grad uredil v udobno rezidenco, poskrbel pa je tudi za cesto do vasi Famlje.
Od izhodiščne točke se držite desne ceste do konca vasi, prav tako zavijte desno na prvem makadamskem križišču. Pot je dolga prbl. 1.5 km, razgibana in bogata z rastlinjem, vidimo pa lahko tudi konje in drobnico. Če se sprehajate z majhnimi otroki pazite na električni pastir.
Po najdbi zaklada vam priporočava vstop v ruševine gradu, ki pripovedujejo pozabljeno zgodbo … Ruševine so zlahka prehodne, le na skrajnem robu, primite otroke za roko. Nima zastonj takšnega imena, saj se pod njim vije soteska reke Reke.
Školj castle
The meaning of the word školj indicates a big rock rising from the sea or from flat surroundings.
And this is where we can find the ruins of a very interesting castle – Školj castle. It rises high above the river Reka, near villages Famlje and Škocjan, on the very edge of Regional park Škocjan caves. Written sources first mention it in the year 1426, when the knight Erhardus von Scolcum owned the property. According to the research, it was built in 13th century as a smaller residence for Devin Counts. Through the centuries the castle had many owners; in 16th century the ownership moved to the baron Rosetti, who transformed it into the comfortable residence and even arranged the road to the village Famlje.
After parking, stay on the right road towards the end of the village, again turn right on the first rural crossroads. The trail is about 1.5 km long, interesting and colorfull, we can also see horses and sheep. If you have small children, be aware of the electric fence.
After loging the treasure, we recommend entering the ruins that tell the forgotten story. They are easily accesible, be alert only on the edge. The castle got the name by justice – a mighty gorge of river Reka is seen beyond the edge.
