New Years Resolution Event 2016 Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Donnacha: Thanks to everyone for attending the 2016 New Years Resolution Event and making it one of the most memorable Resolution events to date. It’s hard to believe that 51 people turned up for the walk given the heavy rain most would have seen early in the morning. Delighted to see the hardcore dedication displayed by one and all! We were lucky as the weather broke just before we all gathered for the group photo and headed off.

I would like to thank Nigel and Jackie for their help in planning the route. Their knowledge of the area was key in planning a safe route for everyone to enjoy.

A second thanks to Nigel for the excellent photos taken on the day, including the traditional group photo before we depart. Great to see you in the photo this year Nigel (thanks to the use of a tripod)!

There was a change in tradition as this year we had a secondary event for the first time. Thanks to Eileen for bringing the Chatty Cache event to the Carrickdale. It was a fabulous evening with great chat & craic.

A third thanks to Nigel (we get our monies worth!) for guiding us around Slieve Gullion Forest Park on Sunday, even though he had found most of the caches.

Finally thanks to all of you who continually turn up every year and make the event what it is. I wish you all the best for 2016, and I look forward to seeing you at the event in 2017 at a yet to be decided location. Suggestions on a postcard to Europe’s First, GC43, Bray, Co. Wicklow. [:)]

Route Map

New Years Resolution Event 2016

When - Saturday January 9th 2016
Where - Carlingford, Co. Louth
Time - 10.00am

The 2016 New Years Resolution walk will take place in the hills above Carlingford. The walk is a loop and is approximatly 6K in legnth with 334m accent, and will take 3/3.5 hours to complete. We will be meeting at the posted coordnates at 10am with a view to starting the walk at 10.30. The walk is optional and anyone is more than welcome to meet before we start the walk or at the Carlingford Arms from 2PM.

The walk is mostly easy going however there are small elevation increases in some places. We will be walking on grassy and muddy mountain tracks so I would recommend bringing a good pair of walking shoes with sufficient grip. We will be out on the open mountainside so you should have warm clothes, wet gear, water and food with you.

Please note that no dogs are permitted within the area we are walking.

As we get nearer to the event, I will provide some weather reports, so I recommend putting the event page on your watch list or log a "Will Attend" notice.

There are several caches that can be found en route and there will be some new caches made available on the day.

After the walk we are going to the Carlingford Arms for refreshments and chat. I have an area reserved from 2PM to 4PM.
