Geocache Description:

A traditional cache (4in black tube) with just a log.

This cache site is a great place to watch trains on what is now the East Coast Line. Today most of those passing are either diesel or electric, but occasionally you may see steam hauled trains on their way to Lincoln, York or even Edinburgh and beyond. As a child I used to travel quite frequently on what was the LNER (London  & North Eastern Railway) where 'greats' like the A4 Class locos 4468 Mallard and 4472 Flying Scotsman might be seen. Today you might see the Sir Nigel Gresley (A4 Pacific 60007) a preserved engine steam hauling. This engine held the post-war steam speed record of 112mph which was achieved while hauling a full passenger load, unlike that of Mallard which was a special unloaded run.

The cache is hidden in a place I have considered for some time as a 'good' place for a hide, although it has grown a bit since I first walked past it. The cache is a thin black tube about 4 inches long with only a log, so bring the writing implement. Although theoretically one could drive close to the cache, do not try it unless you are in a 4x4. Much better to use Shank's Pony, a mountain bike or even a real pony if you have one. The track leading to the cache is rutted and often very wet with deep puddles, so is not suitable for ordinary buggies unless it has been dry for some time. It is however much easier for a child to retrieve, so perhaps you might consider taking one along to help.
