Geocache Description:

This cache is dedicated to ankylosausr!

The ankylosaur was a large plant eating dinosaur from the Cretaceous Period (66 million years ago). They were one of the last remaining dinosaurs before the great extinction. They were up to 30 feet long and weighed in at 13,000 lbs. The signature feature of Ankylosarus was it's body armor and massive club-like tail. They would have been a formidable opponent for creatures wanting to make a meal of them. Ankylosaurus fossils are on of the few specimens of dinosaur found in San Diego County. There is a nice example at the San Diego Natural History Museum. It is displayed next to an excellent mural detailing it's location of fossilization. The poor creature ended up in the water and became home to water creatures that are now fossilized along with it. Check it out sometime. Enjoy your caching adventures!
