Romsey has a wonderful wide tree lined Main Street with service roads and historic buildings along both sides but the history extends further than the strip of bitumen you drive through going somewhere else.
The magnificent Huntingdon Elm trees which line the main street of Romsey were the vision of William White, an early storekeeper. The trees were planted in 1874.
Barton. 20 Palmer Street
The original home of Sidney Seymour who migrated from England in 1840 and settled in the area. The house was built c1855
The former Post Office. 96 Main Street
The first Post Office operated at the Drovers & Carriers Arms. In 1864 the Post Office moved to Moffatt’s Store in Main Street. This Post office opened in 1890 and ceased to operate at this location in 1990.
The Catholic Church 85 Main Street
The memorial stone was laid by the Archbishop of Melbourne in 1924.
The Uniting Church 25 Pohlman Street
Built from Bluestone quarried from Eden Park farm the church was dedicated in 1865.
Lone Pine 40 Main Street
Grown from seed from a pine cone brought home from Lone Pine in Gallipoli.
