Ok. You might not see it now but it was here. Honest. Not long after I moved to Ireland my darling Irish wife gave me driving directions as only happens in Ireland….…..Turn past the Blue Lagoon. You what? I was puzzled and confused. Turn where? Turn past the Blue Lagoon she repeated. Still confused. Turn where? Turn at the corner at the end of the road – up from where the Blue Lagoon Garage used to be. Used to be??? Giving me directions of something that used to be there! Then she said, next time you fuel up look at the receipt....and indeed, the next time I filled up at the Texaco the receipt still called the establishment the Blue Lagoon – after the previous incarnation which had ceased trading or been bought over. A company check and it shows “Blue Lagoon Garage & Stores” incorporated in 1943 – so it was a long time here. The Texaco too is now gone and replaced by yet another operator. Local residents complained about the current unmanned operator when it was coming to town – mainly the 24hr aspect – but it was better than the disused site that was here for ages.

And would you believe it…….on the details from the agent at the time of the land sale it said “Previously known as Blue Lagoon Service Station”. So it’s all nice and new but it’s still the Blue Lagoon – even though the current operator makes no reference to it. The cache itself is a little away from the Blue Lagoon garage site but near that fateful corner and looking out you’ll see the real Blue Lagoon that everything on this site was actually named after – the strip of water between here and Bull Island......sometimes it is blue. Sometimes more green......sometimes mud.
The Cache
The original has gone missing a few times so ive made it a harder find - New hide. Go halfway down to the flat. Easier to get from there. Spoiler photo is useful. Please replace the flat side of the cache against the flat side of the rock and that it’s snugly places.
Look at the spoiler below - it’s about a foot above the black stuff....
