Le guide du routard est dithyrambique : « Mananjary dégage une atmosphère coloniale nonchalante plutôt agréable. Le canal des Pangalanes, construit dans les années 1940 par les Français, est un véritable trésor » (sic !). Le détour par Mananjary serait donc obligatoire rien que pour ce canal (possibilités de circuits touristiques). Il y a également quelques jolies plages mais parfois dangereuses à cause des requins et de forts courants.
A Mananjary deux ethnies, les Antambahoaka et certains clans Antemoro considèrent les jumeaux comme tabous et les rejettent. Ils sont exclus de la communauté et de la grande famille…
L’Association Fanatenane ("espoir" en malgache) a été créée en 1996 pour sauver ces bébés, les accueillir jusqu’à la majorité et les éduquer. Les nouveau-nés abandonnés sont confiés au Centre Social et Médical « Marie Christelle » par le Tribunal de Mananjary.
A moins deux bonnes raisons, donc, pour venir jusqu’à Mananjary !
French guide “Le Routard” is extatic : Mananjary exudes a rather pleasant and nonchalant colonial atmosphere. The Pangalanes’ canal, built in the 1940s by the frenches, is a real treasure! The detour by Mananjary is mandatory only for that channel. Some nice beaches but also beware of sharks and strong currents.
Two ethnic groups of the Mananjary region, clans Antemoro and Antambahoaka, consider the twins taboo and reject them. They are then excluded from the community and the family.
A french association (Fanatenane) has been created in 1996 to save these babies, and educate them up to their majority. Newborns abandoned are sent by the Court of Mananjary to the Social and medical center « Marie Christelle » .
