It is said that the distance of approximately 3.5km from Iwamuro Kannon in Yoshimi-town to Yoshimi Kannon was the pilgrimage routes for praying to Yoshimi Kannon from ancient times. Kitamuki (looking northward)-Jizou was built 220 years ago and is a signpost too. There are Ojizou-sama more than 20,000 in Japan, but the Ojizou-sama looking northward is about 1,000 in the whole country and unusual. It is said that praying to this Ojizou-sama has an effect on a beautiful skin and a successful fortune-telling., so that many girls and fortune-tellers visit here. 吉見町の岩室観音から吉見観音にかけての約3.5kmの道のりは昔から吉見観音にお参りする人々の巡礼路であったと言われています。
そのためこの区間には、昔から地元の人々や巡礼者に信仰され、願い事に効くとされる縁起の良いお地蔵様や仏閣が数多くあります。
近年「願いごとが叶うお寺」として人気の「吉見観音」参りにこの道を通るカップルも急増中です。

北向地蔵は今から２２０年前に建立されたお地蔵さまで、「吉見観音」巡礼の道しるべにもなっています。
日本国内には２万体以上のお地蔵様が有りますが、北向に建立されているものは珍しく、全国で１０００体程度と言われており、このお地蔵様もその一つです。 古くから地元では、このお地蔵様に御祈願すると肌が美しくなるといわれてきたことから、近年では「美顔」・「美肌」祈願に訪れる女性が多く、「願いごとの道」の人気スポットになっています。
また、このお地蔵様をお参りすると占いが良く当たるとのことで、占い師の信仰も厚いと言われています。
道を挟んだ向かい側にある八坂神社は、北吉見地区の鎮守として古くから地元の方々に信仰されてきた神社で、豊穣祈願、家運隆盛、厄除けなどにご利益があると言われています。
