Geocache Description:

The cache location overlooks a collection of vehicles that have literally reached the end of the line.  Not available after dusk. Visibility of Point-of-interest features may be concealed when vegetation is not dormant.

The cache can be accessed from a series of trails, at least some of which are used by the Windber cross country team.  These gently switchback down the hill from the posted trailhead at the district’s athletic fields.  Parking is available at the trailhead.  Alternative access routes have not been investigated and are not encouraged.

This collection of PCC vehicles from the 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s reportedly began in the 1980’s with the intent of refurbishment and returning them to service or to be parted out for others that remain(ed) in service.  Many of the vehicles were gathered from Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Boston, Cleveland, and beyond.  They have since experienced extensive deterioration and vandalism to the extent that their remaining purpose is not known.

UPDATED WARNING. We've been advised that the vehicles remain part of an active salvage operation and that the tracks appear to be private property. No permission has been granted for any exploration in and around the vehicles. Please do not enter the track area or post any photos from it that would otherwise encourage such exploration. Cache is not in the immediate area of the vehicles.
