About This Architectural Historical Landmark

#6 Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum 734 Marin St

The Vallejo City Hall was built in 1926 to serve as a city hall and branch of the Solano County Courthouse.  The City of Vallejo became the sole occupant in the late 1940’s when a new county courthouse was built.  In 1957, an addition was added to the rear of the building to create a drafting room for the City’s engineering division.

Remnants of an old cell block still remain in the basement from the days in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s when the police department was located in the basement.

The building was built in the classical Spanish Renaissance style. The building appears today much as when it was built and is made of reinforced concrete faced in stucco.  The interior halls and stairs are covered in terrazzo and the original staircase is the dominant feature of the foyer.

The Architect Charles E Perry practiced in Vallejo after working for Willis Polk in San Francisco on projects including Filoli, Carolands, and various school projects as well as working with Bernard Maybeck on the Palace of Fine Arts.

The two-story + basement building includes offices, an auditorium, fire-proof vaults and is currently home to the Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum.

The geocache itself is located outside of the Museum but if you visit during museum hours (12 noon to 4pm Tuesday – Saturday) there is a bonus cache inside.  Finding the bonus cache entitles the lucky finder to one free admission to the museum on the same day they find the cache.
