Addiscombe Railway Park history

The Addiscombe Railway line was closed in May 1997 due to the construction of the Tramlink light railway system. The disused railway station on the former South Eastern & Chatham Railway branch line became isolated and various options for the site were discussed with the planning department. Addiscombe ward was identified as being deficient in public open space and the idea for a linear park was born. Outline planning permission was granted to Railtrack and subsequently full planning consent for a new public park was granted.
