Iniscarn Forest
Iniscarn Forest is a small wood of just over 130 hectares lying to the west of Desertmartin village. The forest area has various conifer species and approximately four hectares of mature hardwoods, mostly oak. The walk is a linear walk starting at the car park, where there is place for several cars to park. Make sure your not blocking the gate! The path goes all the way up to the summit of Slieve Gallion at 528m. The ascent will get steeper towards the end and the path will become very muddy and slippery. Wear proper footwear and a walking pole can come in handy. Make sure you have warm clothing with you as it can be very cold and windy on the summit. The series can be combined with the other three caches placed around the summit. The walk up and down will be around 4 miles with 400m ascent.
The Cache
This container will take you of the main path to a nice wee path with enchanted trees. You can do this cache on your way back and continue the path till it joins again with the main path towards the car park. The cache is a camouflaged container only containing a log, so bring your own pen.
Please be very careful in retrieving the container and replacing it!
