Der 1936 m hohe Mattstock bietet eine grandiose Aussicht in alle Richtungen: Zürisee, Bodensee, Alpstein mit Säntis, Glarner Alpen mit Tödi und viele andere Gipfel sind bei guter Sicht zu sehen. Er ist zudem für seine vielen Lawinenverbauungen bekannt, welche im Winter Amden vor Lawinenniedergängen beschützen sollen.
Der Aufstieg wird von der Bergstation der Mattstockbahn mit 1h 50min angegeben und ist auch für berggeübte Kinder gut geeignet, lediglich am Gipfel muss ein kurzes, drahtseilgesichertes Stück überwunden werden. Den Cache habe ich jedoch vor dieser Schlüsselstelle platziert. Er liegt nur wenige Schritte vom Weg entfernt.
Macht eine kurze Verschnaufpause, setzt euch in den "Schatten" und loggt bequem. Dann geniesst die letzte Querung zum Gipfel hinauf.

The 1936 m high Mattstock offers spectacular views in all directions: Lake Zürich, Lake Constance, the Alpstein and Säntis, Glarner Alps with Tödi and many other peaks can be seen on a clear day. Mattstock is also known for its many avalanche barriers, which are intended to protect Amden in winter against avalanches.
The ascent is indicated with 1h 50min from the mountain station of the Mattstock cable car and is also suitable for mountain experienced children. Only at the top a short, wire rope secured section must be managed. The cache, however, is placed before you reach this key location. It lies just a few steps away from the path. Make a short break, sit down in the "shade" and log comfortably. Afterwards enjoy the last traverse up to the summit.
