Geocache Description:

Little Shoal Bay was originally an estuary surrounded by cliffs with salt marshes in its inland arms. Northcote and Birkenhead Points were linked by a wooden footbridge around 1900. The estuary between was subsequently reclaimed, destroying a nice beach, and eventually a rough causeway and road were constructed across Little Shoal Bay. A gasworks existed at the eastern end of Little Shoal Bay between 1902 and the Second World War and the Northcote Tennis Club was located behind the Bowling Club in the 1920s. In the late 1960s the Council zoned Little Shoal Bay for holiday accommodation and the Kon Tiki Motel was built on the seaward side of the road. The road was sealed and the stream diverted through a culvert under Maritime Terrace.

More recently a pedestrian footbridge was also built across the stream as part of adding planting to help filter run-off into the sea. The cache is located in this area. The cache is an Eclipse Tin containing a log sheet and small pencil. On a sunny day there will be many muggles out and about. Beware of high tides.

Due to King tides and flooding we have moved the cache from under the bridge. It is now 3m towards the sea from its previous location and current GZ co-ordinates.

Congratulations to slieschke, FTF
