This is one of 11 new caches placed in the Saratoga Spa State Park to coincide with the 2015 Saratoga-Capital Region Geocache Summer Challenge Wrap Up Party! The Wrap-Up Party is held, and these new caches are hidden, as a thank you to all of the geocachers and volunteers who participated in the 2015 Summer Passport challenge – you’ve made our fourth year of this series our most successful one yet! Over 705 individual geocachers participated in this summer’s program and visited our wonderful Sara-Cap parks and historic sites!
Eight of these new caches have been placed either on, or very close to, the Five Mile Trail (yellow blazes) in the main section of the Spa Park, and can be reached by foot or bike, and there are several parking areas along the way. Visit the Saratoga Spa State Park’s website for a map of the Five Mile Trail, and for a listing of the dates when parking fees are charged, although there are always several free parking areas available all year long throughout the park.
Three additional caches have been placed in a relatively remote but scenic section of the Saratoga Spa State Park – Gray’s Crossing off of Northline Road (a couple miles southeast of the main park). Gray’s Crossing follows the Kayaderosseras Creek to its south and promises some great views of the creek along the trail. The parking area to this section of the park does not get plowed in the winter, so you may want to plan your visit accordingly, although these flat trails would be great to for a quick snowshoe or cross-country ski trip.
All caches are winter friendly with the exception of one. Caches are spread around the park to bring you to areas you may not have visited before.
Enjoy the hunt, and thank you for participating in the 2015 Sara-Cap NYS Parks Geocaching Programs! – Here’s to making 2016 even bigger and better!
