Geocache Description:

This cache provides information about the town of Invergordon in World War I.

Invergordon is a town with a long and rich history.

As the major port for the Royal Navy in World War One it grew to something in the region of 20,000 people.

It's use in World War Two was varied and the surrounding area from Alness in the south to Meikle Ferry in the north ensured that relics remain in the area if you know where to look.

A period of growth occurred when the nearby Nigg yard became a centre for the construction of oil rigs and now is a major player in offshore wind and the recent arrival of Sumitoto with their huge cable constructing factory.

The museum is usually open when a cruise ship is in port and features some excellent displays about the history of the area.  Do call in - you'll be welcomed.
