Geocache Description:

Most people have heard of the movies ‘Honey I Shrunk the Kids’, and ‘Honey, I Blew up the Kid’; where inventor Wayne Szalinski first shrinks his children, then blows up his baby.  What many people don’t know is the film is based on Professor Sprengten who lived in Caterham in the 1960’s (although the film makers would never admit it)

Professor Sprengten lived in a house over looking Manor Park in Caterham.  He was a renowned scientist who spent his career developing a laser to shrink and enlarge objects.  In 1966 he solved the final piece of the puzzle and cracked his enlargement / shrinking laser.

The UK government weren't keen on his discovery, believing if it fell into the wrongs hands it would be disastrous.  They were quick to cover it up his success, in 1969 the professor strangely disappeared, the government today deny any knowledge of a enlargement / shrinking laser.

Professor Sprengten in 1963, many of his first experiments with his laser were on seeds and nuts.

In 1968 the professor knew the government weren't keen on his discovery, so he quickly hid all of his experiments in Manor Park, to collect at a later date, unfortunately he never did get to collect them.

Over the years all sorts of rumours have come out in Caterham.  People claim to have found giant conkers, knitting needles and coins in Manor Park.  However nobody has been brave enough to come forward to admit their finds.

One item we know for sure that he dumped in Manor Park was a nano container which he had enlarged. He wrote about it in his diary, which was found in 2012 under the floorboards of his old house by a family who had just moved in.

The diary entry reads - 'They are onto me.  Today under darkness I drove into Manor Park.  It was such a stormy night I knew nobody would be about.  As I looked out through the rain my headlights lit up a locked gate and I could go no further, I have placed the enlarged nano near an old stump under a rock on the right hand side.' - 21st February 1968.

The nano container photographed in 1967, moments before being placed in the enlargement laser.

The enlarged nano has never been found.  Many believe it was collected by the professor just before his disappearance and given back to his family, however many believe it is still in Manor Park.
