S2 SUPER HIGHWAY You will be walking along the level tow path with an elevated view of the Shenango river. This cache is off trail and takes you away from the river.
about the canal.... You can think of the canal as the super highway of its day. The canal boats could carry up to 60 tons and a team of two or three mules could glide the load along the canal. Canal travel was a leasurely 4 miles per hour maximum but a much smoother ride than the rough muddy roads.
be prepared.... wearing long pants and long sleeved shirt helps protect you from rose thorn scratches, waterproof boots will get you across marshy stretches of trail, and bug spray is needed to keep the ticks away.
a note of caution..... be aware of hunting seasons and wear orange when on the trail during that time or go on Sunday when it is not an issue. Enjoy your trek along the SHENANGO TRAIL
